Tucked just behind Market Square and smack in the middle of everything, Federal House blends charming old-town decor with tasteful modern touches. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’ve discovered a secret spot—equal parts cozy and current.
My server, Bryan, was a true highlight. Calm, attentive, and full of great recommendations, he even helped me choose a cocktail based on my personal preferences. I landed on the Paloma, made with Teremana Blanco—yes, The Rock’s tequila. Bright, refreshing, and citrusy, it’s the perfect outdoor cocktail for a breezy evening by the water.
The oyster bar is full of pleasant surprises. Beyond the classics, they offer adventurous options like fried buffalo oysters and a watermelon-cucumber mignonette that’s as delicious as it is unexpected. Don’t be afraid to try something new—the summer flavors shine.

Their main menu is robust, with nine creative handhelds and a lineup of fresh, housemade salads. I chose the seared red pepper scallops served over a red pepper risotto with grilled jumbo asparagus. Everything was cooked to perfection, from the rich, creamy risotto to the asparagus (not a hint of sogginess!).
Other entrees that caught my eye? The Shrimp Boil with chorizo and corn, the Blackened Rockfish with mango, and a Lobster Grilled Cheese, I’ll be dreaming about.
Just when I thought I was done, the new Crème Brûlée Cheesecake made an appearance. Smooth, rich, and with that perfect crackly top—it was the sweetest possible ending.
