Let Kids Show Their Patriotic Creativity on the 4th + Parade List

June 26, 2023 by jeff

You may not think of Severna Park as your go-to for 4th of July, but you may want to reconsider. Every year Severna Park has a fun-filled extravaganza for the whole family. The 2023 Independence Day Parade will be no different with a patriotic theme of “Broad Stripe, Bright Stars and Big Hearts”.

One of the favorite parts of the Independence Day festivities for kids is the Decorated Bike Contest hosted by Greater Severna Park, and Arnold Chamber of Commerce. Children are encouraged to decorate their bikes, tricycles, and wagons, and enter the contest. It’s great fun and it lets kids express their patriotic creativity.

After the contest announces its winner that morning, the children enter the parade at Riggs Avenue as a group. Older children enter first and the youngest enter last. The winners of the contest lead off! The bikes turn right onto B&A Blvd. and proceed towards Cypress Creek Road. The children turn left into Sunrise Independent and Assisted Living and there will be a designated parking area for the children. Parents should accompany their children or be on hand at Sunrise to pick them up, as they complete the parade route.

Date: Tuesday, July 4th, 2023

Times:

Decorated Bike Contest 9:15 AM – 10:00 AM

Parade is 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Cost: Free

The Decorated Bike Contest will be held at the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce at 1 Holly Avenue, Severna Park, MD 21146

Prizes are announced following judging at the staging area. Categories include “MOST ORIGINAL,” “MOST BEAUTIFUL,” and “MOST PATRIOTIC”

Please register online – A Hold Harmless form will be on location the day of the event.

Sherwood Forest Fireworks

July 3, 9:00 PM

Severn River

The private Sherwood Forest community in Annapolis puts on an incredible fireworks display on the Severn River on July 3. The gated community is closed to non-residents, but if you have a boat (maybe a friend with a boat) or water privileges along the Severn River, you’ll have a great view of this spectacular sky-high show. The show starts at sundown, typically around 9:00pm.
