It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas at Homestead
The sky might be gray and dreary. The air might have a chill. But stepping into any Homestead Gardens location will brighten your day. And there’s no better time to experience this than during Homestead for the Holidays!
Of course, going into a garden center you can expect beautiful pine trees, poinsettias, and mistletoe. But there is so much more than festive plant life. You’ll find decorations to “Deck the Halls,” ornaments to adorn your “O Christmas Tree,” and lights ready to twinkle “Up on the Housetop.”
When you’ve finished turning your home into the kind of winter wonderland that would impress Mrs. Claus, you can get to work on that “nice” list. Homestead has gifts for everyone in your life, no matter if they’re outdoorsy or indoorsy. And before the big day, you can bring them along to Homestead for any of the activities or events happening throughout the holiday season.

Flourishing Flora
Don’t let the fact that the leaves have fallen keep you from thinking about your garden. Homestead has plenty of tools, soil, and plants ready and waiting. They have easy-to-grow amaryllis and paperwhite kits for those with a thumb that isn’t so green (that would be me) which will bloom by Christmas. If you need advice, you can visit their Diagnostic desk—the horticulturalist will see you now!
Dazzling Décor
Do you like to decorate everything in traditional red and green? Or do you prefer elegant blue and white? Is your heart in the forest or on the coast? See what theme draws you in at Homestead’s decoration displays. Staff members put together these beautiful displays with an eye for detail and level of creativity one might expect at an art museum. You’ll find butterfly ornaments, sparkling nativities, and cuddly polar bears.
And you can grab all the lights and outdoor displays your home or yard can handle. Would you rather do Christmas on “easy” mode? Contact their Landscape Division to let Homestead take care of design, installation…even removal and storage!.
Gorgeous Greens
Step into Homestead’s outdoor space to walk through a forest of fresh pine trees. The aroma will bring you immediately into the festive spirit. There are trees upwards of 10 feet tall—so you’d better get plenty of ornaments! Or there are tabletop trees that my family loves to put out on our front step. The perfect size for my little ones to decorate!
There are also wreaths that you can decorate yourself (or keep them looking natural and classic). Or you can choose a pre-decorated wreath with ribbons, pinecones, and even adorable bird figurines. And there is enough garlands and other greenery to fill your entire house with that amazing pine scent!
But if you would prefer a tree that you don’t have to water, inside you’ll find a variety of lifelike trees. They can be pre-lit with sparkling lights, both colorful and classically white. They have sturdy branches for all of your ornaments and will hold up for years, making them a great investment.

Perfect Presents
Homestead Gardens is a one-stop-shop for everyone on your list. Throughout the stores, you’ll find stocking stuffers and gift-ready treasures: do-it-yourself book nooks, beautifully scented candles, and artisan glassware. The Homestead Pantry is always a smart choice…just give them something edible! Jams, teas, snacks, and hot sauce will satisfy any foodie. You can offer them something local or a nationally recognized brand. Either way, they’re sure to love it.
At Evelyn’s Boutique, they have chic and seasonal clothes and accessories. I have my eye on some adorable Periwinkle by Barlow gingerbread house and gingerbread man earrings. (This article may have turned into my wish list—I hope my family is reading!)
For the kiddos, there are gifts for all ages and stages. If it’s baby’s first holiday, you can buy snuggly Jellycat or Warmies stuffed animals. Older kids will love the remote-controlled cars, art supplies, and (of course) outdoor toys. And fur babies have a section of their own, with toys and treats for all creatures great and small! Don’t forget—Homestead is pet-friendly!
But if there are so many choices that you can’t decide, you can always buy a gift card!
Amusing Activities
Even if you’re not planning to buy anything (though don’t be surprised if the store has other ideas), Homestead is a great place to spend a morning or afternoon. In the Davidsonville location, make your way to Santa’s workshop to see the animatronic elves making toys while their furry friends look on. Train displays are set up at all locations, but the Davidsonville set is the largest and most elaborate. Trains crisscross and zoom past, and it’s always fun to watch kids race around the display alongside them. They’ll love spotting their favorite characters: Snoopy, Harry Potter, Mickey Mouse, and more.
When you’re ready for a break, the Beer Farm in Davidsonville has a large play set accessible even when it’s closed. Or at the Severna Park location, head right next door to warm up with a cozy drink from Rise Up Coffee. And for your next celebration, consider The Woodlands, a beautiful event venue that offers a gorgeous space for any celebration.
And speaking of celebrations, come to Homestead for any of the following upcoming events:
