Hippodrome Theater Edition
My two-year-old is currently obsessed with Paw Patrol so when Hippodrome Theater offered Annapolis Moms tickets to go see Paw Patrol Live, we jumped at the chance and I am extremely glad we did.
According to their website, “The Hippodrome Theatre opened on November 23, 1914 as a movie palace that also showcased vaudeville performances. Programming at this world-class venue includes touring Broadway shows, dance, music, comedy, and all the best artists throughout the performing arts.” It is certainly a stunning venue, and you can feel the long history of theater magic here.
We brought my nine-year-old as well so that we didn’t have to get a sitter and he enjoyed the show. I get angst driving in the city when I don’t know my parking situation, but I found it very easy to get there because if you come up 295 like we did, it’s a pretty straight shot into the city, and you’re only driving on city streets for about four total minutes before you turn into the parking garage. They had a ton of attendants helping and plenty of parking and easy access into the Hippodrome.
The Hippodrome is beautiful. Paw Patrol was our first time there, so we didn’t know what to expect but were blown away by the historic beauty of the place. The show was exactly the right length; any more time and the kids probably would have lost it. Some of the performers sounded exactly like the voices on the show!
For this show, there was an intermission and they sold typical kid snacks. When you leave it’s a left and a left and you are out of the city. Highly recommend going to see a show there. They have a great schedule of upcoming shows including Peter Pan in February and an adaption of Clue in May which is calling to me since I grew up on that movie.
After the show was over (it was a matinee), we walked a block over to let some of the traffic die down before leaving the garage. We wanted to see Edgar Allen Poe’s grave which is in a cemetery right next to the Hippodrome. This was a really neat bonus for our day as we spent twenty minutes walking around this fascinating cemetery that was filled with famous historical people of significance to Baltimore. Most graves had signage so you could read about that person and just the architecture itself of everything was fun to see. Parking for the event was $12 when we went and covered us for the whole day, so you can find food nearby or see other areas of interest as part of your visit.
We had a great day out at the Hippodrome and would highly recommend seeing a show there as a family. It’s an easy trip into the city and the kids will love it!
