With rain projected for the next, at least, 8 days, we’ve put together five fun things to do that you may not have thought of before. Rainy days can put a real damper on your plans, but you can still have some fun! Below are some easy ways to help transform a gloomy day into a fun opportunity.
Makeshift Mud Kitchen: Mud kitchens are a fun addition to traditional play-pretend cooking, adding some (admittedly messy) physicality to their culinary experiments. Of course, rain allows for an infinite supply of any ingredients your kid needs, making it a perfect rainy-day activity. Unfortunately, these sets can be pretty pricey, but we have a guide on how to create your own DIY kitchen here.
Build a Fort: Blanket forts are a classic and easy activity for whenever you’re stuck inside. Just grab some blankets, pillows, sofas, chairs, and maybe even some snacks, and voila! Your own little hideout to do with whatever you please- play a board game, read together, or cuddle up and watch a movie!
Construct a Scrap Town: Using household scraps like food containers and cardboard boxes alongside some paper, you can transform an open floor into a bustling town! A fun activity regardless of the weather, creating a miniature town from household materials is a fun way to get creative with your kids, letting them build their own little worlds right in your living room.
Bake Something Together: What better way to brighten up a dour day than some homemade treats? An oldie but a goodie, cooking or baking with your kids is a great way to simultaneously keep them entertained, have some bonding time, and maybe even teach them something that will help them throughout life – and having some tasty snacks doesn’t hurt either!
Karaoke Night: This one hardly requires any setup. You don’t need a karaoke machine to sing, though pulling up the lyrics on the tv or a computer can help set the mood. Some dress-up and a makeshift stage can turn it into a real event to remember. Grab some snacks, get together in your living room, and go wild!
