49 West, the longtime West Street restaurant and live music venue, is entering a new chapter as Myriam Osorio McCormick, owner of McCormick Bakery & Chocolate Factory, takes over the business. The restaurant is expected to keep its music room, staff, and much of its familiar character while adding a sweets counter with chocolates, pastries, and desserts during a time of notable turnover in the Annapolis dining scene.
- Robinwood Redevelopment Moves Forward With $105.8 Million Plan
The Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis is moving forward with a $105.8 million redevelopment of the Robinwood community, including new apartments, renovated townhomes, senior housing, a community center, and neighborhood improvements. The first phase calls for 58 new apartments, and residents affected by construction will receive relocation assistance and retain the right to return.
- City Dock Project Ahead of Schedule as Construction Footprint Shrinks
Annapolis officials say the City Dock resiliency project is ahead of schedule, with the current construction footprint expected to shrink in the coming months and the main project area targeted for reopening in July 2027. The project is designed to reduce tidal and stormwater flooding while reopening key waterfront areas, including the boardwalk to Susan Campbell Park, expected in March.
4. Second Victim Dies After Cape St. Claire Home Explosion
A second person has died following the Cape St. Claire home explosion on Green Holly Drive. Stanley Synowczynski, 75, died after more than a week at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center; his wife, Linda Synowczynski, died at the scene. Investigators ruled the explosion accidental, caused by propane gas that built up after a line was cut during HVAC work and was later ignited by a metal grinder.
5. Southern High Teacher Named Maryland History Teacher of the Year
Southern High School teacher Jennifer M. Davidson has been named the 2026 Maryland History Teacher of the Year by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Davidson, a 29-year educator beginning her 22nd year at Southern, is now a finalist for the national award and was recognized for her commitment to helping students understand American, Maryland, and local history.
