  1. Anne Arundel And Annapolis Urge Storm Prep As Outage Risk Grows

Anne Arundel County emergency management officials are urging Annapolis-area residents to prepare for possible power outages during the winter storm, including charging devices, keeping flashlights handy, stocking essential supplies and medications, and calling 911 only for life-safety emergencies. Baltimore Gas and Electric says customers can report outages online, via the BGE mobile app, by texting OUT to 69243, or by calling 877-778-2222, and residents are reminded to stay well away from downed wires and report them immediately.

Annapolis Police are investigating reports of shots fired at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Eaglewood Road, where officers responded just after 9:30 p.m. January 17, 2026. Police recovered ballistic evidence at the scene and reported no known injuries or property damage as the investigation continues, asking anyone with information to contact the department.

  1. Police Investigate Fatal Double Shooting In Harwood

Anne Arundel County Police are investigating a fatal double shooting after officers found two adults dead inside a home in the 100 block of Harwood Road with gunshot wounds. Police said a firearm was found at the scene, the incident appears isolated to the residence, and there is no threat to the public as the case remains under investigation.

4. Moore Pushes Bill Targeting “Surveillance Pricing” In Maryland Grocery Stores

Governor Wes Moore rolled out the Protection from Predatory Pricing Act as a 2026 General Assembly proposal aimed at limiting “dynamic pricing” and the use of consumer surveillance data to set individualized prices in grocery stores, including requiring prices to remain fixed for at least one business day and creating penalties under the Maryland Consumer Protection Act. The Maryland Retailers Alliance pushed back, arguing grocery shelf prices are the same for all customers and warning the measure could raise costs and reduce promotions.

5. Opinion: Annapolis Should Merge Fire, Public Works, And Other Services With Anne Arundel County

A guest opinion argues Annapolis should pursue a city-county merger for services such as the fire department, public works, and recreation and parks, contending city residents pay significantly higher taxes while also funding county services through their county tax bills. The piece suggests Annapolis retain police and planning and zoning, start with phased consolidation, and says long-term costs and pensions make current city operations unsustainable without major structural change.

When Your Child Is S

When Your Child Is Sick, Access Matters / Here When Your Child Needs Care - Especially During Sick Season

We’re proud to partner with community sponsors like SP Docs. Here’s a message they wanted to share with our community:

Cold and flu season is in full swing, and many families are feeling the strain of long wait times and limited availability. We’re currently seeing a high volume of colds, flu, strep throat, RSV, and stomach bugs. Our office offers in-house PCR testing, which provides 95% accuracy compared to the 50-75% accuracy of home tests, to help us rapidly identify illnesses and streamline treatment. Our nursing team is also available throughout the day to answer questions and offer support, so parents aren’t left guessing.

We make every effort to provide same-day sick appointments for our patients, and we carefully separate sick visits from well-child visits to protect every child who walks through our doors.

When your child needs care, we’re here with timely care and clear guidance.

Visit spdocs.com or call 410-647-8300 to learn more about joining our practice and how we support families throughout the year.
