MIXTAPE: A Solo Piano Experience with Mikael Darmanie
Acclaimed pianist, composer, and improviser Mikael Darmanie brings his extraordinary range to the intimate Bowen Theatre. Known for his “Lisztian pyrotechnics” (New York Classical Review) and hailed as “exceptional” by The New York Times, Mikael has performed throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, Russia, and the Caribbean.
MIXTAPE is an eclectic program showcasing the musical perspectives that have most influenced his own, from J.S. Bach, Olivier Messiane, Robert Schumann, and Alexander Scriabin to Erykah Badu and many more. At first glance, it’s giving “music-streaming-app-playlist-on shuffle” vibes, but at its core, it represents the intersections of two disparate systems: the eclecticism of today’s algorithmic based society and the indifference of nature.
