Down Beat magazine describes award-winning, multi-instrumentalist Deanna Bogart as “an extravagant entertainer”—and entertain is what Bogart does best. The Maryland-based blues and boogie pianist/saxophonist combines the energy of 1930s style boogie piano blues with contemporary blues sounds emanating from places like New Orleans, Chicago, and Memphis.
“The goal when we play live,” says Bogart, “is to create a fusion of all these different musical styles with the blues and boogie genuinely at the core.” Deanna’s fusion of “blusion” (which combines the best of boogie-woogie, contemporary blues, country, and jazz) has garnered her three consecutive Blues Music Awards’, Horn Instrumentalist of the Year for 2008, 2009, and 2010, and an endorsement contract with Rico Reeds. She has won, at last count, more than 20 Wammies, the music awards for the hotly contested Washington area.
