Café Craze! The Rise in Bakeries and Cafés in Annapolis

September 4, 2025 by Tyler Ingle

Move over Panera, there’s some new bakeries and cafés in town! In recent years, the Annapolis area has seen a bakery boom where the art of baking comes to life through the rich aromas of freshly baked bread, pastries, and cakes. These new bakeries are becoming neighborhood staples for sweet and savory indulgences.

Check out a few of the new kids on the block, along with some of the classics:

Black Market Bakers

Born out of a desire for Annapolitans to have a new and fresh bakery option, Black Market Bakers was born just after the pandemic. Originally a sole food truck, they’ve since expanded to have multiple brick and mortars. Receiving rave reviews from customers and food critics alike, this has become a go-to bakery, with lines consistently out the door. Get there early if you’re after a cruffin; these flaky, sugar-dusted hybrids can vanish long before lunchtime.

Blue Crab Cupcakes

Looking for an allergen friendly option? Blue Crab not only has everyday flavors of cakes and cupcakes, but also has a dedicated gluten-free section! In addition to these classic sweets, the bakery also has macarons, with staple and seasonal flavors, that can be shipped directly to your door! Be sure to grab a “pupcake” for your four-legged friend while you’re there.

Great Harvest Bread Co.

What’s so special about these treats? The Montana wheat! Supporting U.S.-based agriculture and small businesses, Great Harvest pairs its signature loaves with a fresh lineup of monthly features, so there’s always something new to discover. From classic honey whole wheat to indulgent cinnamon chip bread, this neighborhood bakery blends comfort, freshness, and community in every slice.

Ingrano

Inspired by Chef Adam Pusateri’s travels and experiences in many kitchens, the menu features dishes from a number of different nations. More specifically, the breads are created via French cooking methods that capture the spirit of various cultural backgrounds while embracing creativity. Don’t miss their signature sourdough, the perfect base for one of their inventive sandwiches, and pair it with a fragrant lavender latte for the ultimate café experience.

Tatte

A northeast-based brand, simplicity and distinction is defined from the second you walk inside the doors. Highlighted by its Israeli, Mediterranean, and European influences, this bakery and cafe has everything from cookies and cakes to sandwiches and more. Don’t leave without a pistachio croissant, you’ll thank us later.

Whether you’re getting a quick breakfast or a sweet treat to eat later, Annapolis’ bakeries and cafés are giving locals more reasons than ever to slow down and savor the moment. After all, life’s just a little sweeter when it’s served warm from the oven.
